The painting "Sun in disguise" is based on the rich ancient folklore that surrounds hummingbirds as magical creatures. Concretely, the ancient Mayan civilization believed that bird was actually the sun in disguise appearing as a hummingbird to court the moon, the Incas believed that the hummingbird was a messenger from heaven, while the Aztecs believed that the god was made of hummingbird feathers that fell from the sky.
